ICYMI - We have released a public beta update which allows our community to play Portal Knights on different islands in the same multiplayer session.

How to switch to/from a beta branch
In order to switch between the regular and beta version of Portal Knights, do the following:
* In Steam, right-click on “Portal Knights” in the games library.
* Select “Properties”.
* In the tab “Betas” of the opened window select the desired version of the game form the drop down menu and close the window. ("portal_knights_podi")
* The game should now update automatically to the desired version. If it doesn’t seem to do so, please close Steam and reopen it.

PLEASE NOTE! All of your party MUST be in the same branch in order to play together. As this is a beta branch, we highly recommend you back up your saves beforehand.

How to find the Portal Knights Save-game
The Portal Knights save-game can be found locally on your hard drive. By default the location should be: C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\portal_knights
This path may vary for different languages! It is the standard path used by Windows games.

The “Players on different Islands” (PODI) feature allows players in a multiplayer session or in a local split-screen session to visit islands individually. The feature can be toggled on and off in the session configuration menu. This menu can be accessed via the cog-wheel button on the character cards in the character selection menu.

Portal Knights! Play together on different islands NOW in Update v 1.1.3 for Steam.

We know this is a hugely popular community request and the team have been working incredibly hard to make it happen. Be sure to download now and let us know your thoughts in the comments below...

1.1.3 – Content Notes

Additions
• PODI is activated for the public now. The “Players on different Islands” (PODI) feature allows players in a multiplayer session or in a local split-screen session to visit islands individually. The feature can be toggled on and off in the session configuration menu. This menu can be accessed via the cog-wheel button on the character cards in the character selection menu.
◦ For the host player of a PODI session the technical requirements increase for RAM usage and upload bandwidth.
◦ There can be short lags during gameplay when co-players switch islands. This is a known issue and it will be further worked on for future builds.
◦ Some sounds like the island ambient sound behave incorrectly when playing PODI in local split screen. This is still being worked on.
◦ Some of the “Join”/”Leave” messages don’t show the correct content in all situations. This is being worked on.

Fixes
• Fixed: event quest display does not show up after playing an event twice
• Fixed: Some major issues which occurred when retriggering the C’Thiris event
• Fixed: backpack freezes when opening the inventory directly after porting to a new island
• Fixed: Events won’t be triggered anymore in universes which have been played with a manipulated local time.
• Fixed: other players don’t play their beam out animation when they are traveling to a new island
• Fixed: Invisible HUD after traveling to a new island in rare situations
• Fixed: an endless loading screen which occurred in rare situations when loading an event island
• Fixed: The recipes for blue doors and windows made out of blue concrete blocks have been fixed.

Portal Knights Community Q&A – August 2017

A couple of weeks ago, we gave you guys the opportunity to send us your questions for our team to answer. Well, we’ve picked out a handful of them and provided answers below. Check ‘em out…

Question – Christy Chz – Are there gonna be new pets?
PK – Maybe, maybe not! Watch this space… 😉

Question – Anthony Cool – When will the game be coming to the Nintendo Switch?
PK – We don’t have a launch date to share right now, but when we do, we will certainly let you guys know!

Question – Evan Logan – Are we getting more classes in the future?
PK – Classes play a huge part in Portal Knights and we’d love to introduce more of them in the future!

Question – Slater Karp – When could we expect the ability to be on separate islands on multiplayer?
PK – This is a feature that we’ve recently introduced to Steam, originally as part of a beta branch. If you want to check it out, head over to our Steam page for more info. As for console, we can’t promise this feature right now. It’s certainly something we’d like to bring to PS4 and Xbox One, but it’s not an easy feature to introduce.

Question – Comanche Native – Will we be able to use the chairs and beds?
PK – Bringing functionality to more of the furniture in PK is something we know our community are asking for but right now, we don’t have any additional info to share.

Question – MalDrakon – Any plans for new bosses in the future?
PK – Bosses play a major part in Portal Knights and we know you guys want to see more of them! Absolutely no promises right now, but we hear you.

Question – WTFTVDwriters – Any plans to expand on the role playing aspect of the game or the lore?
PK – Yes – Absolutely! Stay tuned.

Question – cjhague99 – When will Mac support become a thing?
PK – Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans to bring Portal Knights to Mac. Our focus right now is on PS4, Xbox One, Steam and Nintendo Switch.

Question – WhyteNynja – Can you add random NPCs come to your home island and maybe spend a day or permanently stay there so our homes don’t feel so empty?
PK – Great suggestion and one we will pass onto the team!

Question – Wanamingo – Do you want to release future content as update or as DLC?
PK – Both! The plan is to keep updating Portal Knights as we have been doing since we went into Early Access back in 2016 and release DLC separately.

Question – @soonpirateking – What feature of your game is your favorite or are you most proud of?
PK – Ooo this is a great question and we’re sure the answer may vary depending on who you speak to! We’re super proud of our latest feature, which allows our Steam players to play together on different islands. This has taken a while to get into game but you guys seem to be loving the feature and that means everything to us!

A big thank you goes out to everyone who asked us a question! This is definitely something we would like to keep on doing, so please, if you have any burning questions, head over to our social channels, leave them there and we’ll answer as many of them as we can in our next Q&A blog…

Speak soon! 🙂

New Features and Content – Update v 1.2

* Various islands will have a new environmental appearance with a different dirt texture, new plants, lighting, sounds, props etc.
* The time between events has been reduced. Events will take place every hour, instead of every six hours.
* Vacant ‘blank canvas’ islands will be available via an in-game merchant.
* Users will have the ability to reset a universe. “Home” islands and the new vacant islands will be excluded from this reset. This will enable the new boss key quests, vacant islands and POI’s in old universes as well.

* 2 new enemy invasion events for the pool of randomly occurring events. (Mummy Invasion and Stoneguardian Invasion)
* New quest chain for unlocking the boss portals. These quest chains will provide:
* New tasks for the players, new NPC’s with new dialog, new enemies, dungeons, island environmental look with new sounds, block textures etc.
